AUF DEM RISCH – Manor house on a country estate on the Emmer in Niedersachsen
AUF DEM RISCH is a typical country estate whose centuries-old agricultural tradition had to be adapted to the needs of the present day. Functionally, the farm had to be converted from agricultural to residential use. The new main building combines typical elements of traditional Niedersachsen architecture with a modern interpretation of traditional European design concepts.
A new courtyard with its arcades connects all the barns and manor houses of the existing estate dating from the 17th century. The arcade also leads into the main entrance of the new mansion.
They form a stone base for the private rooms of the new building, the „backbone“ of the complex’s spatial design and at the same time an enchanting courtyard where the buildings gather as at a dinner party.
Overlooking the River Emmer, the manor house opens onto the garden side of the extensive grounds. The central hall extends over two floors of living space and is surrounded by a gallery. Fully retractable sliding doors give this central room the feeling of a garden parlour in the landscape. From here, an ingenious garden design leads the owners across the meadows to the riverbank.
